Our program

Mentava allows high performers to learn more in less time. In 20 minutes a day, an engaged student can easily cover 2 years of math curriculum per year, which means algebra in 4th grade.

Algebra is the pre-requisite for AP Computer Science, so we expect our students to be ready for that in 5th grade, and AP Calculus around 8th.

How it works

The key to Mentava's success is allowing students’ learning to be fully self-paced. In school, “gifted” classes are typically 1 year above grade level and just stay there. Schools don’t consider that an accelerated pace of learning compounds over time. A student who can learn 2 years of material in a year should be 1 year ahead after 1st grade, 2 years ahead after 2nd grade, 3 years ahead after 3rd grade, and so on. Few schools are equipped to handle students who learn so quickly.

Mentava follows the “flipped classroom” educational model. Rather than relying on a teacher to teach material, which requires all students to progress at the same pace, we follow a learner-centered model in which a student can progress as soon as they understand a topic. We use software tools that support adaptive, individualized learning, while our instructors monitor student progress and give supplemental instruction when needed.

Our app adapts to a child’s needs, enabling them to grasp complex concepts more quickly and thoroughly. This tailored approach means a student can move faster through subjects they excel in while taking the time they need on more challenging topics. With Mentava, watch students' knowledge and confidence soar as they achieve remarkable academic milestones on their own terms.

Mentava is not private school. It is not intended as a wholesale replacement for a child's regular school. Nor do we want to be a child's "school after the school day". We want to see more children who are part of their local school community, attending school with peers their own age, but without restrictions on their pace of their learning.

Reading

For our youngest students, age 2+, Mentava begins by teaching reading. The program takes less than a year and focuses on achieving reading fluency to prepare kids for math.

Mentava's reading program is individually paced and focuses on software-based daily tutoring to provide adaptive, individualized learning. Due to the childrens' age, the program requires some teacher supervision, decreasing significantly over the year as a child's ability to teach themself improves.

With Mentava, a student's education is personalized, allowing them to learn at the pace that suits them best. This individualized approach ensures that a child not only understands each concept fully but also progresses more quickly than with traditional learning methods. As a result, they can leap ahead in their academic journey, building confidence and a strong foundation for future success. Choose Mentava, and give your students the gift of accelerated learning tailored just for them.

Math (up next)

At Mentava we believe that a strong math background is the best possible foundation for future STEM classes.

Because the standard curriculum for elementary school is so slow, we see the biggest gains when we begin working with kids early. Once a preschooler is reading comfortably, they are likely to be a good candidate for our math program. In 20 minutes a day, we aim to complete 1st grade math before they begin kindergarten. If this seems crazy, consider that kindergarten math objectives are basically "count to 20" and first grade is "basic addition and subtraction".

The standard math curriculum after that doesn't get much faster, so just covering 1.5 years of curriculum each year means completing the 7th grade math curriculum by the end of 3rd grade. That sets a child up to begin algebra in 4th or 5th grade, and algebra is the only pre-requisite for AP Computer Science. Between AP Computer Science, AP Calculus, and AP Statistics, we expect kids who stick with the Mentava program to earn multiple college credits before they begin high school.
