Three products for three developmental stages
Mentava’s Alphabet Sounds book
Alphabet books teach reading wrong. There are 44 sounds in the English language. Half of English sounds are written with more than one letter and alphabet books just ignore them.
So we wrote a book that does it right. Our 149-page book is organized by sounds, not by letters, which makes much more sense for pre-readers. We include sounds like sh and ch, voiced th and unvoiced th, and vowel sounds like the oo in book and the oo in boom.
Our Alphabet Sounds book is ideal for pre-readers, age 12 months and up. You can get the pdf version for free, or get a hardcover on Amazon. (We sell them at cost and make no profit.)
Mentava Basics
The necessary skills for reading don’t all develop at the same time.
The ability to understand left-to-right reading order is a developmental milestone that often occurs around age 3.5 - sometimes earlier, sometimes later.
Kids who aren’t yet developmentally capable of understanding left-to-right reading order can still learn single letter/sound pairings with our Mentava Basics curriculum.
Mentava Basics is included as part of the standard Mentava subscription.
Mentava
Mentava’s standard curriculum is the fastest way to take a child from zero to early reader (able to read Green Eggs and Ham, or Elephant and Piggie books).
Mentava will introduce your child to letter sounds, teach how to blend them together, and then quickly progress through digraphs like “sh”, vowel teams like “oi” and “silent e”, and more complex words like “should” and “cooked”.
To begin learning to read, your child must be able to tell the difference between 🐶🐟 (dogfish) and 🐟 🐶 (fish dog). You can find this test at the end of our free Alphabet Sounds book.
Mentava only succeeds with daily practice. We rely on you to encourage your child's love of learning and make learning a daily habit for your child.
